This book is a must for anyone who is interested in the history of Central California and the Sierra. Brewer’s edition is beautiful, clear, easy to read and wonderfully illustrated with photographs of Native people. It competes favorably with Kroeber’s text, having more detail presented in an accessible text. Five stars absolutely.

The Ultimate “Bible”-I recommend this book for anyone interested in Native American life in central California. We Natives consider it the ultimate “bible” of the Yokuts people. I have 3 copies of this rare book including the 1st original printing. I continually use it as a reference book.
